The 2017 NFL season is set to be a good one after an eventful off-season. Even though it’s early there are three guys that stick out to me as MVP Front runners.
1. Tom Brady
The Patriots are the clear winners of the NFL off-season. The reining Super Bowl Champs swapped the 32nd pick of the NFL draft to solidify their number one receiver in Brandin Cooks. They swapped a mid round pick for a young defensive Linemen with upside in Kony Ealy. They added more fire power on the offensive side of the ball with the acquisitions of tight end Dwayne Allen, running backs Mike Gillislee, Rex Burkhead, and Speedy Wide Receiver Andrew Hawkins.
Additionally they added defensive firepower by re-signing a pair of Super Bowl heroes in Dont’a Hightower and Malcolm Butler. The Patriots also re-signed stand out defensive tackle Alan Branch, and safety Duron Harmon. Furthermore, they added corner Stephon Gilmore and linebacker David Harris to what was already a Super Bowl winning defense.
The Combination of offensive weapons and an elite defense will keep the patriots offense with the ball. Because of that, Tom Brady will have another MVP caliber season.
Stat Prediction : 5,100 yards, 48 touchdowns, 8 interceptions
2. Aaron Rodgers
Aaron Rodgers and company always have one of the most lethal passing attacks in the NFL. Aaron Rodgers is always and MVP candidate and don’t expect that to change. The Packers have had a rather quiet off-season. Green Bay replaced productive tight end Jared Cook with Former Patriot tight end Martellus Bennett. They also managed the quiet signing of tight end Lance Kendricks.
The Packers lack a running game and a defense. That plays into Rodgers favor when considering the MVP award. Rodgers finds his team in a lot of shootouts throughout the season which will pad Rodgers stats come season end. Rodgers is also on pace to become the first QB in NFL history to reach 300 career touchdowns with less than 100 interceptions. With this Milestone and another big season statistacally, we could be looking at another MVP award for Rodgers.
Stat Prediction: 4,600 yards, 42 touchdowns, 7 interceptions
3. David Johnson
David Johnson is entering only his third season in the NFL and is already one of the best three-way threats in the league. He has shown that can catch the ball out of the back field, run through and around tackles, and return kicks.
With Carson Palmer on the decline the Cardinals need to rely on Johnson to carry the offense more than ever. Coming off of a great season I expect David Johnson to keep it rolling knowing the Cardinals season rests on his back.
Stat Prediction: 1400 rushing yards, 950 receiving yards, 18 touchdowns
There are many players that will work in the MVP race. These three players are set up to give the award all it can handle.
